Press Release  2

Leipzig, Wednesday, 15.04.2015

Subject: Kurdish Student got shot in Leipzig 2

We want to thank all people and groups who supported us in managing the solidarity event for our friend and joining the demonstration for him.  We are happy to say that in spite of the short mobilization period, more than 200 people find their way to the event and showed their solidarity  with our friend who is in hospital. This will give him strength on his way to full recovery.
We are also very pleased about people who held a speech at our demonstration illustrating the possible political dimension behind this incident. In the time of Pegida/Legida, increasing number of attacks against people who are considered as “non-German” and against asylum camps; racism shouldn’t be a marginal topic in media.  This requires a great social debate about the perspective of the victims of racist attacks and the people who experience discrimination in everyday life.
Furthermore, The UKSSD will  keep working on the topics racism, asylum politics and discrimination, even to inform our partners in Syria and Turkey about the current “German Standard”.

We kindly ask witnesses to contact police as soon as possible.
