Mass Pro-Refugees Demo in Dresden | Germany

Dresden witnessed on 28.Feb.2015 more than 5000 refugees-rights supporters, activists, and asylum seekers who went out to streets against racist movements against migrants and refugees such as: PEGIDA and Co. The demonstrators made the city center of Dresden full of colors and pro-refugees stickers and flyers.

May musician groups took part in the Demo and their music and chants could be heard in each corner emphasizing that Dresden is a city for all and no individual or group shall take racist actions against other cultures or colors that represents the real meaning of life in any city where equal democracy is guaranteed for all individuals living there. The musician groups included rappers and singers from different cultures and languages also fro different political and social classes.

After the Demo went through Dresden center and reached its final destination in Theaterplatz in front of Opera House, Demonstrators set a big tent there and occupied the square legally. This occupation represents many cultural backgrounds, political youth groups, musicians, artists, writers, rappers, and from different cities from Germany.

The occupation of Theaterplatz is still running up to his moment and demonstrators are willing to stay there longer as a peaceful intellectual political action to assure that Dresden is a place for everybody regardless of her/his political, social, or cultural background.

The official Statement by Asylum Seekers Movement:

Thanks to you …. 5000 people for joining the demonstration

(Why we decided to camp in Dresden’s city centre:)

In Germany, asylum seekers are not allowed to take part in any political or economic process, making them the weakest part of society. On the other hand, people participating in racist demonstrations are of special importance to the federal government as they are considered to be potential voters.

The federal government of Germany is accusing movements like PEGIDA while the Saxonian government wants to collect their votes and convict the asylum seekers and Muslims.

We believe that rulers of capitalistic systems are using racism to turn people against each other to prevent them from protesting against the state and governments. That is why we know that we cannot change anything just with demonstrations like this.

We, some of the non-citizens, protest against the arbitrary and unjust form of granting asylum to asylum seekers. The reason of our presence here is that western countries including Germany are seeking their own benefits in our countries.

We are here as well to protest against the anti- refugee policy in governmental offices towards non-citizens, and also the existence of business institutions in relation to asylum topics whose main goal is getting profits out of the non-citizens’ situation and stopping them to demonstrate against the circumstances of asylum by calming them down.

Due to the reason that every non-citizens struggle to improve or change the asylum situation is facing with severe suppression, we announce that this is the only way to show our objection against this terrible situation and demand the following:

On the basis of our experiences as asylum seekers we therefore have concrete demands:
equal democratic rights not just the same duties
no criminalization of refugees
all family members and relatives should be allowed to live together
more rapid processing of accepting our applications for asylum
accommodation in suitable quarters – apartments instead of camps
better integration through German courses from the very start
the right to work from the very start
abolition of compulsory residence for all refugees
equal treatment of all refugees
No deportations during the winter! no deportation prisons! No deportation to countries with inhuman living conditions!
