Mr Abdulaziz Ramadan, Chairperson and Co-Founder of UKSSD, has been chosen to be the Diaspora representative in the chairperson at Convening of the World Humanitarian Summit on that takes place in in Istanbul, Turkey, from (23 and 24 May 2016)
Across the world, we are witnessing levels of human suffering unseen in generations.
More than 125 million women, men and children need humanitarian assistance in 2016. Without adopting more effective ways to address their suffering, we cannot aspire to a world of peace, security and sustainable development.
The Summit will be held at the highest level to reaffirm our shared responsibility to humanity, and to agree to a concrete set of actions to enable all stakeholders – including Member States, humanitarian organizations, affected populations, civil society, and the private sector – to better prepare for and respond to crises. In Istanbul, we must commit to take forward the Agenda for Humanity to reach those furthest behind, to support the most vulnerable and those in need of humanitarian assistance.
Now, however, is the time to urgently move from agreements to action. As a representative of the Diaspora you play an invaluable role in ensuring that this bold Agenda for Humanity is taken forward and is actionable. On behalf of the Secretary-General, I invite you to join us at the Summit to tackle one of the most fundamental and pressing issues of our time.
Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs
