Empowering Syrian Communities in Rural Damascus
Civic Engagement, Leadership, and Social Cohesion for Sustainable Development
DOZ is launching a new project aimed at strengthening civic engagement, leadership, and social cohesion in Damascus and Rural Damascus. The initiative focuses on empowering youth, women, and persons with disabilities (PwDs) to actively participate in community development and contribute to a more inclusive and resilient society.
The project will work directly with communities in Sahnaya, Darayya, Douma, Harasta, Zamalka, and Jaramana, offering localized activities that respond to the unique needs and challenges in each area.
The project aims to enhance civic engagement, improve social cohesion, and strengthen local economic resilience in Rural Damascus. By building leadership skills, facilitating constructive dialogue, and supporting community-led initiatives, the project empowers marginalized groups to take an active role in shaping their communities’ future.
Upcoming Activities
Increased Civic Engagement and Leadership among Youth, Women, and PwDs. To promote stronger participation in community life, the project will implement a series of empowerment and leadership-building activities:
- Capacity Building & Empowerment for Youth, Women, PwDs
- Support for Local Initiatives led by Youth, Women, PwDs
- Dialogue & Community Participation between local authorities and local communities including youth, women, PwDs.
- Support for Community-Led Development Initiatives led by Youth, Women, PwDs.
These activities will help strengthen social stability and promote citizen participation in local development processes.
The project also promotes networking, cooperation, and advocacy among supported initiatives, encouraging long‑term collaboration between community groups, local stakeholders, and authorities.
Through this initiative, DOZ and its partners aim to strengthen the foundations of civic participation and social cohesion in Syria. By empowering youth, women, and persons with disabilities and fostering meaningful dialogue with local authorities; the project supports communities in leading their own recovery and development processes.
