The displaced families in Northeast Syria in Qamishli, Kobani, Amuda, and Al-Malikiyeh are in desperate need of life-saving assistance. Their core needs include:
• Food & Clean Water: With markets closed and supply lines severed, families have no reliable access to food. Most are surviving on bread and donations from host neighbors. According to the UN, those displaced “face critical shortages of food… and fuel for heating”. Clean drinking water is scarce, heightening the risk of dehydration and disease.
• Shelter & Winter Warmth: Overcrowded classrooms and unfinished buildings are now home to displaced families. These shelters are unheated and poorly insulated, offering little protection against the frigid winter chill. Families urgently need warm blankets, heating fuel, and winter clothes to prevent hypothermia. Every additional stove or heater can mean the difference between life and death for a child on a freezing night.
• Non-Food Items (NFIs): Basic essentials are lacking. Displaced people left everything behind and need mattresses, bedding, cooking utensils, hygiene kits, and other supplies for daily survival. Assessments show critical gaps in all essential items – from soap and clean diapers to jerry cans for water. Fuel for cooking and lighting is almost nonexistent. Providing these items will restore dignity and safety for families who have lost everything.
• Support for Women & Children: Women and children make up a large share of this displaced population and are especially vulnerable. There are pregnant and nursing mothers among them, as well as many small children and infants. They need extra care – from baby formula and child-friendly spaces to medical attention and trauma support. Ensuring protection and warmth for young children and safe shelter for women (including privacy and lighting) is paramount to prevent exploitation and to keep everyone healthy.
